Johalla Projects is dedicated to creating venues for emerging and mid-career artists’ work to be seen, for their visions to be executed, and for them to access new audiences. We partnered with 811 West Fulton Market, which is home to the Wing, Knoll, and other businesses to consider how their space could celebrate Chicago-based contemporary art. Johalla Projects curated a salon-style exhibition of contemporary Chicago artists that incorporates photography, fiber art, text-based work, and painting into one display. As a nod to this mission of the Wing, we created an exhibition with a strong emphasis on female artists. The wall highlights the diverse array of studio practices through cohesively pairing seemingly opposing visual styles that range from text, abstraction, geometric, to realistic. In this, the salon wall is a constellation of diversity and Chicago-based artistic voices.
