Daniel Hojnacki At Jimmy

Spring 2015
At The James Hotel Chicago

Art and cocktails combined when JIMMY, (610 N. Rush St., www.jimmychicago.com312-660-7191), the cocktail lounge at The James Chicago, partnered with Johalla Projects on a rotating artist series. Curated by Dont Fret and Anna Cerniglia of Johalla Projects, the artist series will include a quarterly art installation by a notable, local artist.

The series will begin with fine artist and photographer Daniel Hojnacki. Hojnacki’s work considers ideas about the domestic and nostalgia. For the project installed at JIMMY, Hojnacki has created large-scale, unique works that include and riff on materials and objects that would not be out of place in one’s home. In line with his usual methods, the prints are purposefully weathered and distressed, evoking degeneration or agedness. With these techniques in mind, the illustration becomes immersive and more immediate, encouraging the viewer to reconsider his or her own trace of a memory. The installation also celebrates the upcoming new JIMMY Patio, bringing a piece of the outdoors inside with the work’s palm detailing.

The installation will be unveiled during a viewing party on Thursday, April 23rd from 8-10pm hosted by Johalla Projects, Dan Hojnacki and JIMMY Manager, Evie Marie. Hojnacki and JIMMY head bartender, Matt Hunnel, have collaborated to create the special Piñana Palm cocktail, a tequila-based punch created with agave syrup, offered for $12.

The artist series is the first activation by Johalla Projects happening at The James Chicago through the Cultural Collection program. The Cultural Collection program features a purposefully curated group of partners that represent the dynamic and vibrant cultural landscapes in which each James property resides. Throughout the year, Johalla Projects will partner with The James on short film screenings in JIMMY and will also provide art books for the living library in the lobby of the hotel.
