February 25 - March 25, 2017
at the Chicago Athletic Association

A collaboration between Johalla Projects, the Field Museum, Chicago Athletic Association hotel, and Land and Sea Dept., The Backroom celebrated Specimens: Unlocking the Secrets of Life, a special 2017 exhibition that took a deep dive into the Field Museum’s vast collections. Designed by Johalla Projects and operated by Land and Sea Dept., the pop-up highlighted actual specimens from the Field’s collection and made them available to guests to explore for the first time off museum grounds.

The Backroom featured interactive programming with Field Museum professionals on a variety of topics, ranging from space to taxidermy. Guests were given the rare opportunity to chat in person with leading experts in the fields of botany, zoology, geology, and history, all while enjoying cocktails from Land and Sea beverage director Paul McGee. Workshops were followed by nightly programs that included DJ sets, trivia, and karaoke.
